First surviving known record of David is a land deed--in 1766 he purchased 237 acres in Halifax Co., VA.

"...we may never find proof of David Chadwell's parentage. That he was born in Virginia is very likely. His father may have been born in England. All indications are that he was the son of John Chadwell but lacking proof, I could not show that." Introduction, Chadwell Pioneers and Patriots, Sharon Chadwell-Phillips, 1990.
