Bogg's Cemetary
This cemetary is located in a hillside meadow on the Left Fork of Steer
Creek, at the former town of Orton, and belongs to Lower Steer Run Missionary Baptist Church. In it's day, Orton was a thriving community,
with all the amenities of any small town, but now it has been absorbed under
the post office designation of Normantown.
Within the fenced bounds of this cemetary is an ancient "Indian Mound".
For more about this mound, as well as others in the area, you might want to
visit the Kitchen. Though Native Americans might not share my opinion, I find
it appropriate that the early settlers chose this site to lay their loved
ones to rest.
For convenience, I have listed the gravestones alphabetically. My comments
on the physical appearance of the stones are contained in brackets. I have
attempted to faithfully report the inscriptions.
